Oil seals are commonly used in driveshafts, crankshafts and hydraulic cylinders where a rotating shaft is lubricated by oil or grease. The seal works like a cap, covering the clearance between the shaft and housing, stopping fluids from leaking whilst preventing containments from entering the chamber.
